New*** US Bowler Link: There are a lot of good articles about topics that the Romeo Bowling Program emphasises. Tommy Jones Video - Release: Tommy is one of my favorites and a dominant player on the tour. Watch this video - watch his body position at the foul line, watch how he waits at the line, notice how his swing comes right underneath his head and that his hand goes right up the back of the ball - no turn or spin.
Norm Duke Video talks about Starting Position Lesson 1 Norm Duke Video talks about Stance and Pushaway Lesson 2
Norm Duke Video talks about Ball Placement and Path Lesson 3 Norm Duke Video talks about Release Drill Lesson 4
Norm Duke Video talks about FullRotation Lesson 5: Video where describes "Rotation" and how to achieve it. Rotation is not "turn" or "spin." It is accelleration. He explains how pros "wait" for the ball to fall and then accellerate after it passes the leg at the foul line. He also talks about cupping and uncupping the bowling ball at release to achieve more hook. Note: you must be very strong to cup the ball...pros are very strong...amateurs are very weak :o) Norm Duke Video talks about Low Ball Lesson 6: Making 7's and 10's. This is precicely why we emphasise working on 7's and 10's only during each practice session. We  have played "low score" just shooting 7's and 10's.
Chris Barnes Releases...he is also one of the very best in the world...watch how he goes through the ball at the foul line...

MHSAA Varsity Regionals and Finals Lane Pattern: Keggle Challenge Series - Middle Of The Road

This years MHSAA lane condition for the regional and state finals will be the Kegel Challenge Series - Middle Of The Road pattern. Click the links to see detailed information about the two conditioner variations - a 40 unit and 50 unit pattern. At this point in time, I am not sure which of the two will be used and will update everyone when I find out.  We will set up some time during the season to bowl on the pattern. The athlete's choice Davison Mixed Doubles tournament will be using that pattern. The center they bowl in has old wood heads which tend to hook earlier so it may not be quite the same reaction as the synthetic surfaces, however, the athletes do get good exposure to bowling on a less forgiving condition.

SMART Scholorship Fund Participation and MHSAA Update

Participation in SMART or any other form of award that does not meet MHSAA standards from the 2011 - 2012 season forward will make the athlete ineligibile for MHSAA high school athletic competition. Athletes may participate in SMART tournament but cannot accept the award to remain an amateur.
