This Years Team Returns Key Players To Revamped Roster
| November 28, 2010 |
The 2010 - 2011 Romeo High School bowling team has many newcomers. All have brought a positive attitude and strong work ethic to improve. For many, it will be their first time in High School competition. On the girls and boys side, these teams are essentially brand new. No doubt high caliber talent is added to this years team! On the girls side, all but two are new Varsity team members this season. The boys Varsity team is returning only one player. The JV boys have three returning players. The JV B team is made up of five new players. Five new freshman boys showed scoring ability during the tryouts; three led the qualifying average statistics, two were 6 and 7 respectively. They also performed in the top of the spare shooting statistics as well.
This years girls team features three of the best players in the state. Shannon Kelley, Kaylla Koster, and Alicia Harbin all qualified for the MHSAA Division 1 state finals last season. Shannon and Kaylla are seniors and Alicia is a sophomore.. They will be captaining a team of highly motivated newcomers this season; a senior, a junior, and two sophomores (Kelsey Ruebelmann, Allie Mager, Kaitlin Lowran, and Stephanie Seefried). The team is preparing diligently to be ready for the first match on December 13 against Arch-Rival SH Stevenson.
The boys varsity team features four veterans of team competition and three freshman. Tyler Stokes is returning after a year off of bowling as a senior and one of the two captains. Corey Wachtmeister is a senior and the other captain and will also be assisting with coaching activities during practices. Corey is new to the team, but has previous Varsity experience with a different school. Alec Shipman was last seasons high average player and is returning for his third Varsity campaign as a junior. Junior Matthew Fazzalare, worked hard on his game this past summer and it shows. He earned a varsity position and brings a lot of high school experience from his time on JV. This season, three freshman led the tryout competition and earned varsity spots; Tyler Culver, Alex Finn, and Dylan Stokes. All three showed strengths in scoring, spare shooting, and fundamentals.
The boys Junior Varsity team is lucky enough to have three members from last season return. Three sophomores and two freshman make up this seasons squad. Andrew Nelson, Michael Steffens, and Connor Muns are sophomores and returning from last seasons JV team. Newcomers' Kirk Lightcap (sophomore), Patrick Brunkey (freshman), and Joe Seefried (freshman) round out the team. Matches will be exciting with this team this season.
The Junior Varsity B team has new athletes, including freshman Danny Bartolotta, joining the RHS bowling team. They will be competing in tournaments and at some matches against other MAC Red Junior Varsity B teams.
