The varsity boys had a very good week in MAC Red conference play going undefeated as they came from behind to win against Ford II. The pair of lanes that both teams competed on were very different from one another and the Bulldogs made the adjustments necessary to win 23 – 7. Romeo split the baker portion of the match going into head-to-head match play down 6 – 4. The first game was very close and Romeo took the lead into game 2 with a 36 pin win and a 12 – 5 lead. The team came back from a 110 pin deficit in the second game coming to life with several strikes to win the game and the match. The Bulldogs made nice adjustments to the tricky lane condition and was led by sophomore Tyler Culver who won both of his match points with his 166 – 231 397. Also winning two match points were Junior Andrew Nelson 203 – 193 396, Senior Matt Fazzalare 191 – 195 386, and sophomore Patrick Brunkey with 178 – 172 350. Sophomore Dylan Stokes had another solid spare shooting day and came away with one match point with a 169 – 204 373.

The varsity girls showed flashes of great bowling once again against a very good Ford II team and were outscored. The Bulldogs lost the baker portion of the match going into match play down 10 – 0. Ford II had a very good day shooting four 200+ games as a team winning both match games and downing Romeo 28 – 2. Junior Kayla Rziemkowski had a perfect spare shooting day converting all of her makeable spares! She also won a match point with her 167 – 207 374. Sophomore Tori Paquette continues to improve and won a match point with a 162 game. Freshman Abby Vecore, juniors Stephanie Seefried, Kaitlin Lowran, and Ashley LaVoie also made a lot of nice shots but were not able to win a match point.

The junior varsity boys improvement is translating into wins now as they dominated Ford II in MAC Red conference play with a 19 – 11 win, their first of the season. The mostly first year boys put together a nice set after falling behind in the baker portion of the match 10 – 0. In match play, Romeo dominated Ford II winning 19 of a possible 20 points. Junior Kirk Lighcap was brilliant shooting 249 – 239 488 and winning both match points. Also bowling well and winning two match points were Sophomores Jake Peyerk 189 – 200 389, Joseph Seefried 141 – 209 358 and freshman Brendan Leahy 167 – 169 336. Sophomore Danny Bartolotta won a match point with a nice 211 game.

The varsity boys showed just how good they can be at Sunnybrook Lanes in a MAC Red showdown with the eight ranked Eagles. Do not kid yourselves about this 19 – 11 win. This was a slugfest as both teams put up big numbers and did not back down from one another. Romeo has notoriously gotten off to slow starts in the baker portion of the matches but today, would be very different. The Bulldogs opened the first baker game with the first 6 strikes in a row! Ike nearly matched them as their only spare was in frame 3. After 7 frames, the teams were deadlocked. Ike finished very strong and came out on top in one of the highest baker contests of the season with 279 – 256. The Bulldogs kept firing the second game and split the baker portion of the match heading into match play down 6 – 4 winning game two by 15 pins. In the first match game, both teams threw a lot of strikes at each other, with Romeo shooting 1,080 and prevailing by 80 pins. The match hung in the balance as it came down to the last bowler in the 10th frame when Ike left a solid 4 pin which could have tied the match and sent it into a rolloff. Junior Andrew Nelson carried the team winning both of his match points with the second highest series in MAC Red this season 246 – 259 505. Senior Matthew Fazzalare bowled well winning one match point with a 231 – 208 439 as did sophomore Dylan Stokes who won both of his match points with a 222 – 208 430. Sophomores Tyler Culver 193 – 175 386 and Patrick Brunkey 188 – 192 390 were instrumental in the win but could not outscore their opponents.

The varsity girls had another improved performance but came out on the losing end of a very competitive match against Ike 27 – 3. Ike managed to win two close baker games and had a 10 – 0 lead going into match play. After losing the first match game, the girls made adjustments and bowled solid the second game but came up short by 17 pins. Junior Kaitlin Lowran bowled well and won both of her match points with a 168 – 208 376. Sophomore Tori Paquette won a match point with her nice 204 game. Freshman Abby Vecore, and juniors Ashley LaVoie, Stephanie Seefried, and Kayla Rziemkowski all bowled very well and were unable to earn a match point. This was clearly a case where the final score does not indicate how well the Romeo girls bowled and how close the games were.

The junior varsity boys have really been improving as the mostly first year bowlers have gained some valuable experience thru 7 previous matches. The Bulldogs managed to win the second baker game and trailed 6 – 4 heading into match play. Romeo lost the first match game by 47 pins and fell behind 13 – 4 heading into the final game. Romeo was not able to overtake Ike despite winning 3 of the 5 match points and fell 21 – 9. Junior Kirk Lightcap led Romeo with a 193 – 205 398 and won a match point. Sophomore first year bowler Jake Peyerk continues to improve and won both of his match points with a 211 game as did fellow sophomore Danny Bartolotta who won his first match point of his high school career. Freshman Brendan Leahy also worked hard and won a match point.

The mostly first year varsity girls once again showed how much they are improving and won a come-from-behind overtime thriller against Utica. The girls won one of the two baker games and trailed heading into match play 6 – 4. In the first match game, the girls bowled solid and took the lead 11 – 8. In the second match game, Junior Kayla Rziemkowski had the crowd on their feet as she started the game with the first 6 strikes in a row en route to a 234 game and won a match point! The Bulldogs won the sudden death baker game converting spares in all 5 frames with a 90 – 75 triumph. Sophomore Tori Paquette won both of her match points with a 175 – 136 311. Juniors Ashley LaVoie 133 and Stephanie Seefried 146 also won match points. Junior Kaitlin Lowran and Freshman Abby Vecore fought hard the entire match to help the team win but were not able to earn a match point.

The varsity boys once again got off to a slow start in the baker portion of the set and were down 10 – 0 heading into match play despite a solid 190 baker game and lost to Utica 22 – 8. Utica’s experience on their home lanes paid dividends for them as they were able to put up a solid first match game against the Bulldogs. In the second game, Romeo came to life making some good adjustments to the lanes and they were able to win that game. Sophomore Patrick Brunkey led the team with a 184 – 246 430 and won a match point. Junior Andrew Nelson won both of his match points with a 206 – 189 395. Sophomore Tyler Culver won a match point with a 180 game. Sophomores Dylan Stokes and Joseph Seefried along with Senior Matthew Fazzalare worked very hard to match up to the conditions but could not win a match point.

The junior varsity boys got off to a slow start in the baker games and were outscored by Utica 25 – 5. The Bulldogs trailed 10 – 0 heading into match play where Utica’s home lane experience paid off. The Bulldogs were led by Sophomore Jake Peyerk with a solid 214 – 172 386 as he won both of his match points. Also earning a match point was first year bowler and freshman Logan Schult with a 188 game. Sophomore Danny Bartolotta, senior Jacob Lohrer, freshman Brendan Leahy, and junior Kirk Lightcap continued to make adjustments and battled the entire match but were not able to win a match point.
